“A person should never have to fit a pair of shoes, the shoe should be
able to fit the person.”
This entry we talk on how Choo
going out in his own. The Choo name was
a global brand, with high-end retail clients that included Harrods and Saks
Fifth Avenue carrying Choo footwear. He had also expanded to include a range of
accessories including Jimmy Choo handbags and other accessories. Choo now
resides chiefly in London. He is involved in a project to set up a shoemaking
institute in his country of birth Malaysia, where his iconic status is often
evoked to inspire budding shoemakers and fashion designers. Choo crafts a small
number of pairs of shoes each week and trains a select group of students on how
to make high-end footwear. Sandra Choi, who was an apprentice under Choo, is
the Creative Director at the company. Mellon and Choi’s design collaboration
led to immediate increased demand for Jimmy Choo shoes.
